The Wales & Border Counties Harness Racing season roared to life at the Tairgwaith all-weather track, promising an exhilarating kick-off for enthusiasts and participants alike. As horses thundered down the stretch, the atmosphere crackled with excitement, setting a hopeful tone for the races to come.

    Grade B Heats

The day began with the competitive Grade B heats. Horses raring to showcase their speed took to the track, with Best in Flight, expertly guided by trainer Dai Arrowsmith, claiming victory in the first heat. This fleet-footed competitor, owned by Tracey Gale from Gorslas, outpaced rivals such as Ceiron Spirit and Sealofapproval, reminding us all why the draw holds such importance in these races.

    Nursery Races

Newcomers took the spotlight in the Nursery division, offering a glimpse of the future stars. Lucifer, driven to victory by Perry Thomas, showcased its potential in the first race. The second Nursery race saw Morris Dancer, with Ben Flanagan at the helm, crossing the finish line first, inducing a ripple of excitement and expectation for what these young horses might accomplish in their careers.

    Baby Novice Division

The Baby Novice races brought out the green yet promising contenders. Mayhem Queen, under the steady guidance of Lee Price, dazzled onlookers, hinting at her limitless potential. In another race, Hillbilly Jackson galloped to first place, signaling a promising start to his racing journey that had everyone watching with bated breath.

    The Novice Race

Experienced but fresh horses stepped up for the Novice category, with Red Cash rising to the occasion. This promising horse, piloted by Andrew Hardwick, captured first place and garnered attention as a contender with great potential. Evenwood Itchyfeet and Up All Night rounded out the placings in a display of spirited racing.

    Grade A and B Final

Closing out the day were the open races, capturing all the pinnacle of talent. Mahogany Caio, driven by farrier Oli Jones, led from the gate to secure a triumphant win in the Grade A race, holding off tough competition like Goodtime Hal. For the Grade B Final, Stateside Icon, skillfully directed by Mathew Tromans, reached the finish line first, showcasing the skillful training behind the win.

The successful and thrilling start to the season has everyone expecting more as we head towards the next meet at the Synod Inn in Ceredigion on Bank Holiday Monday, May 26th. This meeting is sure to bring more heart-pounding races, with a 1.30 pm start time.
