Horse Racing Tips: Unveiling a 10/1 Contender in Saturday’s Newbury and Newmarket Picks

James DooleyBy James DooleyJanuary 18, 2026No Comments4 Mins Read

The excitement continues in the heart of horse racing country with a thrilling Saturday of action at Newbury and Newmarket. Both tracks promise to light up the racing world, and we’ve got some standout contenders ready to leave their mark. Each choice is grounded in a blend of past performances, current form, and race nuances.

    Newbury 12:50 – Sunway

At Newbury, we begin with the Group 3 Aston Park Stakes over a demanding 1m4f distance. Our eyes are on Sunway, a horse that’s as tricky as they come to get a win out of, yet one brimming with potential. Last time out, he performed below expectations while still managing a credible third place at the same venue. When Sunway is on his game, he commands respect, combining endurance with a surprising burst of speed. With Kieran Shoemark in the saddle, we might see him slip into contention once more.

    Newmarket 13:05 – Leadman

Turning to Newmarket, we consider the engaging 7f handicap with a focus on Leadman. This horse is stirring up interest after a recent shift to trainer David O’Meara from Andrew Balding’s stable. Leadman’s early promise was evident with a strong showing against Epictetus at Newmarket, indicating he could surpass his current rating of 83. With Richard Kingscote steering him, Leadman is prepped and primed after a solid second-place finish at Newcastle.

Newbury 13:25 – Symbol Of Honour

Next at Newbury, the Listed 6f event for three-year-olds throws the spotlight on Symbol Of Honour. This versatile competitor boasts an illustrious history, including a respectable sixth in the famed Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot. A bit of a disappointment last time at Newmarket, he’s found form in Meydan, suggesting that this 6f sprint may just suit him best. With Charlie Appleby training and William Buick riding, Symbol Of Honour stands poised to capitalize.

    Newmarket 13:40 – Original Outlaw

For those with a taste for a gamble, Original Outlaw at Newmarket offers potential. Returning from a gelding operation, he promises much based on past glimpses of brilliance. His showing at Salisbury, a fine second to Royal Playwright, hints at untapped talent. Rated at 85 for this 7f contest, and with Ralph Beckett’s training complemented by Kingscote’s riding, Original Outlaw is set to make a statement.

    Newbury 14:00 – Genealogy

A vibrant betting handicap at 1m2f has drawn our attention to Genealogy, who previously faced off against top Derby contender Delacroix. Genealogy didn’t shine on that occasion, but the opposition was rated over 100. Here, with a rating of 96, there’s a belief he’s been strategically positioned for a big run under Ryan Moore’s guidance and the training of Aidan O’Brien.

    Newmarket 14:15 – Helm Rock

Consistent and battle-hardened, Helm Rock participates in the 1m handicap at Newmarket having cut his teeth with five runs already this year. Adaptable across surfaces, with a notable performance at Doncaster, he remains a viable contender with Richard Kingscote in partnership with Danny and Claire Kubler.

    Newbury 14:35 – Notable Speech

The day’s feature, the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes, over a challenging mile, sees Notable Speech as a standout competitor. Possessing a mixture of speed and stamina, he impressed within the 2000 Guineas and the Breeders’ Cup Mile. Facing champions now in his seasonal debut, the stage is set for a gripping performance if he can leverage his favored fast ground.

As we immerse ourselves in another spectacular day of racing, let’s relish each moment, and may the horses run true. Whether it’s the vibrant sprints or the strategic long runs, each race at Newbury and Newmarket brings its unique thrill to those who live and breathe this sport.
