Green Impact, a remarkable colt under the expert guidance of trainer Jessica Harrington, is gearing up for the Betfred 2000 Guineas this coming Saturday. All eyes are on him as connections simultaneously dream of a future Derby triumph. This promising colt, owned and bred by Marc Chan, had a stellar juvenile season last year.

From Juvenile Campaign to Guineas Glory?

Green Impact started from a commendable neck defeat in his debut, which only set the stage for his ascent. He soon clinched victory over Delacroix in his maiden race, solidifying his reputation by beating the same rival again at the Group 2 KPMG Champions Juvenile Stakes in September. Situated in the capable hands of Harrington, Green Impact is one of the outstanding colts alongside Hotazhell, who is eyeing the French 2000 Guineas. However, Green Impact is dedicated to shining at Newmarket.

Jamie McCalmont, racing and bloodstock advisor to Marc Chan, expressed on the Nick Luck Daily podcast that this has been the long-term goal since September. “It was always the plan when he ran in September,” McCalmont mentioned, stressing how important this fixture is as a trial for the Derby. Despite the pressure, the excitement around his form and preparation abounds.

Seasoned Stalwart Kinross at the Crossroads

On another front, Kinross, Marc Chan’s stalwart and seasoned equine, stands at a new juncture in his career. At eight years old, he is being targeted for the Lockinge Stakes this season. According to McCalmont, Kinross seems to be coming into form earlier than expected this year. The discussion is open regarding his ideal racing distance, with the belief that perhaps six furlongs might be too quick for him now.

Marc and Ralph Beckett, Kinross’s trainer, agree on the potential for him to tackle a mile, especially if the conditions are suitable.

    Emergent Talent in Sardinian Warrior

Meanwhile, something new is brewing on the horizon with Sardinian Warrior, named after the legendary jockey Frankie Dettori, set to make an appearance at Ascot in the Paradise Stakes. Despite his high ratings, his performance in stakes is yet untested, leaving McCalmont cautious yet hopeful about his performance. “We’re going into No Man’s Land,” he commented regarding the level of competition expected this time around.

This will mark the first black type race for this horse, and the outcome could shed light on what might lay ahead for the rest of the year for Marc Chan’s equine investments.

Across the board, this season is brimming with potential and expectation for Marc Chan’s cohort. Green Impact stands as a beacon of hope for the upcoming 2000 Guineas and beyond, while Kinross’s journey continues in uncharted territories. With the right weather and field conditions, these thoroughbreds might etch their names into racing history.
