Willie Mullins’ Rising Star Anzadam Aims for Cheltenham Glory
The famous silks of Joe and Marie Donnelly, well-known from their Champion Hurdle star State Man, now shine on another promising talent, Anzadam. Like State Man, Anzadam began his career in France before joining Mullins’ top-class stable in Ireland.
Anzadam has already shown he’s something special. He’s unbeaten in three races, including a dominant debut for Mullins where he beat Gordon Elliott’s highly rated Kala Conti by six-and-a-half lengths.
Despite being thrown straight into a Grade 3 race at Fairyhouse, Anzadam made it look easy. He beat a Grade 2-winning mare while carrying two extra pounds, proving his class.
A Rising Star with Big Plans
The son of Derby winner Authorized, Anzadam has impressed with his speed in his two-mile races. His next big test will likely come in the Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown on February 2.
However, his entry into the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham caught everyone’s attention. This shows how much Mullins believes in him, especially after just one race under his care.
Tough Competition at Cheltenham
The Champion Hurdle will be fiercely contested this year. Constitution Hill is the favourite after returning to top form. Lossiemouth, Brighterdaysahead, and reigning champion State Man will also be strong contenders.
Mullins’ confidence in Anzadam, now priced at 12-1, speaks volumes about his potential.
Trainer’s Insight
Mullins’ son Patrick shared with the Racing Post:
“He was very impressive at Fairyhouse. He had some issues before, and we hadn’t seen his full potential until that race.
“He ran to a mark in the low 150s, but he’ll need to improve by around 10 pounds to compete with the very best. Hopefully, he can find that improvement.”
