Katie Power has attracted a rush of money to become the first ever female jockey to win the Grand National, according to bookmaker Ladbrokes.
The Irish jockey will team up with mare Baie Des Iles in the world’s most famous steeplechase this Saturday, and following a flurry of support Ladbrokes has been forced to slash her odds of winning the race from 33/1 to 20s.
“Katie Walsh and Baie Des Iles are the ultimate girl power pairing,” Ladbrokes’ Nicola McGeady told Bettingpro.com.
“Walsh came so close to winning the Grand National back in 2012, but this year there is a real belief that she can go all the way and create history.
“Her mount is ticking all the boxes as far as punters are concerned. She will love the ground and the more it rains the more money we will see in her favour.”
With three female riders lining up in the race for the first time since 1988, Ladbrokes make it 10/1 (from 12/1) that history is made and one of them win.
Bryony Frost is 33/1 to win on Milansbar, while Rachel Blackmore is a 40/1 shot to win on Alpha Des Obeaux.
“Bryony Frost has also proved a popular selection,” Nicola added. “Like Baie Des Iles, Milansbar is another hardened stayer with form over the trip.”
